Placing trust in anything other than the Lord is “folly.” Perhaps we cannot trust acquaintances, co-workers, maybe even friends, but we would like to think we can fully rely on our family. Unfortunately, I’m sure we can point to at least one incident where they too have disappointed. Hopefully one but more than likely more than one. Time might have been a factor, but sometimes it is more hurtful, it could be inconvenience, worse still, self-interest, but none of these unpredictable variables apply to the Father. He has all He desires, and whatever He lacks He can create. His only interest has nothing to do with self-it has to do with the well-being of His children. Time is never a factor for to Him:

Psalm 90:4 (NKJV)

4“For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,

And like a watch in the night.”

And since time is not a factor, it is never an inconvenient to come to our aide.

Psalm 121(NKJV)

God the Help of Those Who Seek Him

A Song of Ascents.

121 “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to [a]be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your [b]keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall [c]preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve[d] your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.”

He will never disappoint us on a spiritual level. He will never do/grant us anything that is detrimental.

3He will not allow your foot to [a]be moved…”

He will always withhold anything that would hamper or interfere with our spiritual development. And it won’t always be apparent when it is.

We may think whatever we are asking of Him could not possibly affect us spiritually, but He knows if it will or not. He also knows what He needs to work out of us, He knows our issues when we think we don’t have any, and He wants them gone.

They will come between you and Him and He doesn’t want anything to derail you and your spiritual development. He knows what any given decision, conversation, or action will lead to and it might take you completely off course for years. How sad-a missed opportunity to grow in the knowledge of the Lord. That said, never give up, He loves you like no other and His mercy is “new every morning.”

Lamentations 3:22-24 (NKJV)

22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
24“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”

He is always there to pick you up and take you back to the right path, the path that leads to Him for an eternity.

The more we get to know our Father the more we love Him and the closer we want to be to Him. This bond grows stronger as we learn more and more about the limitless depth of His love and concern for all that affects us.

Isaiah 31 (NKJV)

The Folly of Not Trusting God

31 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong….” The Father knew the Egyptian army would flee and that the defense they had hoped-at the very moment they needed it-would disappear.

“But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!

Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not [a]call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit.”

These “evil doers” do not know the Lord, they worship idols, they are leading a life of the flesh, and they have absolutely no awareness whatsoever of an Almighty God-emphasis on “Almighty.” They make their gods out of gold and silver and have to carry them around during their ceremonies. They believe they have power but that belief is willful. It’s the result of a hopeful self-delusion that there is a power greater than themselves that can come to their defense. It’s a source of comfort in disquieting times. This delusion will end:

“When the Lord stretches out His hand,” for “Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together.”

All life on this earth is vulnerable. The Lord is not. Our flesh cannot exist in the presence of the Lord. Moses asked the Lord to “Please, show me Your glory.”

Exodus 33 (NKJV)

“But He said, ‘You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.’ 21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

When Moses came down from the cleft of the rock, the side of His face that was exposed to the back of the Father was glowing:

The Shining Face of Moses

29 Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. 30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them as commandments all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.”

The Lord will always be there for our good-

God Will Deliver Jerusalem

For thus the Lord has spoken to me:

“As a lion roars, And a young lion over his prey (When a multitude of shepherds is summoned against him, He will not be afraid of their voice Nor be disturbed by their noise), So the Lord of hosts will come down To fight for Mount Zion and for its hill. Like birds flying about, So will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it.

Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves.

“Then Assyria shall fall by a sword not of man, And a sword not of mankind shall devour him. But he shall flee from the sword, And his young men shall become forced labor. He shall cross over to his stronghold for fear, And his princes shall be afraid of the banner,” Says the Lord, Whose fire is in Zion And whose furnace is in Jerusalem.”

Psalm 146 (NKJV)

The Happiness of Those Whose Help Is the Lord

146 Praise[a] the Lord!

Praise the Lord, O my soul!
While I live I will praise the Lord;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in [b]a son of man, in whom there is no [c]help.
His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.

Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever,
Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked He [d]turns upside down.

10 The Lord shall reign forever—
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Praise the Lord!
